Get Well Soon, Spot!!!

My friend John's 19 year old kitty Spot needs some purrs and purrayers. If you leave comments here I'll be sure to pass them along to John and Spot.

Also, John found a little meezer last night. He's in the Los An
geles area, if anyone is interested let us know.

Our old cat, Spot, has been losing a lot of weight lately and has apparently stopped eating and cleaning herself. Over the last week a lump has manifested on the right side of her face...we're thinking an absess since her eye has been running too. no yellow, but she is skin and bones. She's never been a very hefty can anyway...always on the scrawny side. I'm just upset because she got like this sooo fast. She was pretty much normal a month ago with just the runny eye, then over the last 2 weeks she's stopped cleaning herself and stopped eating and now the lump has appeared in her cheek. It smells like an abcess, and although my wife knows how to drain it she's scared to. We'll try the syringe and such, but we're going to have to take her in to get an antibiotic regardless...she looks so bad and scrawny, but she seems perfectly happy otherwise...lazy old cat anyway. She is drinking milk, so we are going to try and pump some kitten formula in to her as well. As most people, we arent ready to let go of her since she's been with us forever....at least forever in cat years. If the treatment doesn't work and she continues to decline and suffer, then we will have her put to sleep, but for now....we just don't feel she's ready....nor are we. Wish her luck, and if luck isn't with her then wish her the best. Thanks.

Update:

We dropped Spot off. Doc checked her out and will be doing an extraction of the tooth if she passes the blood test to determine her Liver and Kidney status. She was about as fiesty as a furry skeleton could be while we were there, but the abscess stank bad. It's amazing how fast it had swollen and took over her face. If all goes well she will be back home tomorrow and we'll be $700 poorer.....good thing they accept payments!! If it doesn't go well with the blood test or she doesn't survive the minor surgery, then....well....we'll just not go there. She's 19 years old and still quite content to be an uber bitch of a cat, so I don't think she's quite ready to kick the bucket quite yet.

Update again:

Surgery won't be till after 8am, so we won't hear anything till after 10 at the earliest. We didn't get any calls last night as to the blood work, so she should be fine for surgery today.

In other news, while driving home from karate last night we "kidnapped" a siamese kitten that was just sitting on the corner of a street near the youth center. Little guy was starving...prolly abandoned or let out since he came right to my wife a daughter. Looking for a home for him cuz we have no more room at the inn.

Prayers and good thoughts for Spot today. Got this posted on the Cat Blogosphere and the Pet Prayer & Praise Blog, so we'll get lots of prayers coming Spot's way.

I'll tell Karen C (Grr, Midnight & Cocoa's Mom) about the stray. She lives near LA and has found many stray cats homes (including my KC).

Oh, poor little Spot! I hope the surgery goes well and she has a very speedy recovery. That sounds very very painful! I am going to purr and purr for her. She sounds like a feisty old gal.

Poor Spot! I have instructed my four cats to purr mightily for her. I hope the surgery goes well and she soon recovers. Cats can spring back surprisingly quickly, even when they are elderly. So don't lose hope. Well done for saving the tiny meezer too! :)

Still waiting. Surgery should be under way as we speak since they postponed it for the afternoon. Her blood work was good and they had her on IV to help with her dehydration. We'll have news after 3:30 PDT. Thank you for all your puuuurrrrayers and good wishes!!

Surgery was still underway when we called, so they said they would notify us when she was awake........I hate waiting.

FINALLY!!! Spot came through just fine minus one loose canine and two broken mollars, which were the cause of the infection....no more dry food for Spot! She'll be staying the night on IV for her dehydration, but will be home tomorrow. She'll have to be "drained" for a few days (my wife have boldly volunteered for this duty! Thank you all for your puuuuurrrayers and good wishes...they really helped out!

Spot has been out and about. She's not going to win any beauty contests, but she'd talking and walking (although a bit sidewise and crossfooted at times). She's taking her medicine like a trooper and is wondering why yet another 4 legged furry is occupying her space. Tut is a doll and has already met most of the other furries except for Harry who likes her privacy outside. Spot has retaken her comfyplace under the dining room table with her partner in fur, Spooky, nearby. KC is trying to break in the "new meat" and, considering she is still quite the kitten herself, it should be an exciting time. The dogs...well...they'll just have to deal with it. Sasha is very good with the cats but Charlie...he's yet to figure out what their purpose in his tiny little world is beside angry little playthings.

Thank you everyone for your puuuurrrayers and wiskerishes. I'm glad there are people like you in the world. And thank you Anni for posting this and getting the troops together...Love you bunches! Spot says purrrrrrrrrreow!!!
